WHAT?! Blood in a vampire-slaying anime?! Here we are again on a new summer season anime! Today we're going to be talking about Blood-C. It's supposed to be a part of CLAMP's Blood franchise, but it's supposedly going to have a completely different story line than the others. Without further ado let's jump into Blood-C! First thought: WHAT THE HECK IS THAT? So we open up on a monologue about human nature. Props to whoever was voicing this part, however, it was very well executed, and the voice enrapturing. All the while we see what look like blood balloons I think. I'm not sure. Then, we see a man-bat get hacked in half, and we jump into the OP! Give me a hug! Do not invade my personal space! The OP is nothing too fantastic, but it'll do. The music is good, and we get a contrast story of half of it showing the main character's airhead side and there her being one bad mamma jamma. So we start out with our main girl Saya (a miko-chan!) meditating, and trying to capture a strange sort of light. Meet Saya. She's happy 'cause she gets to kill them dumb vampires She isn't ableto catch the light, and she gets interrupted by her father. It is here that we learn that Saya is a klutz, as she faceplants to the floor. "FATHER, PLEASE LET ME GO TO THAT PARTY!" Saya's father. I still don't know if his name is Tadayoshi or Tsuyoshi. Saya's father, Tadayoshi or Tsuyoshi (it says the former in the sub while it says the latter on Wikipedia), tells her that it's not good to fall all the time. Saya asserts, however, that she's healthy and can handle it. They then discuss the light, and how Saya's mother (deceased) used to see visions, too. Saya's father then says that if she wants to eat with their neighbor she should hurry. She tries to run out and faceplants again... "It's okay! My face broke my fall!" Saya heads out in her school uniform to her neighbor's cafe. She and Fumito (the cafe owner) have a discussion about Saya's father. Fumito comments that Saya's father is a hardworking man, and Saya wants to be of more help to him. Saya heads out to school, and we get a random sequence of Saya walking and singing. Her voice was very pretty, though. Bishie...must...not...let hatred...spill..*muffles self* Those are worse lyrics than Friday Saya gets to school and we meet her fellow classmates. The supposedly glamorous Yuka scolds Saya for being late or almost late all the time. The twins Nene and Nono (who say almost everything at the same time to the point of being creepy) back Saya up, commenting that Yuka is scary. Class rep Tomofusa tells them to quiet down, and Kanako-sensei tells them to do the same while teasing them. Then, mysterious Tokizane-kun walks in trying to be mysterious and cold, while taking a glance at Saya. Say hi to Yuka...um...she has blue hair? I bet they are so two-faced. "I am the class rep. MY WORD IS LAW!" Obligatory pretty teacher "This school bites." We then move on to a random gym class where everyone plays basketball, and apparently Saya's amazing at sports. I really have a problem with how tall everyone is in this show. Afterwards, Class rep tries to ask Saya out, but she refuses as she has to help her father out. We get a unnecessarily long walking sequence, where Saya stops for no reason. I guess we're supposed to think that something was watching here. She also has a dumb argument with herself at how she couldn't pet a puppy for one second 'cause she has to help her father. It reminds Saya of her father Saya gets back, and her father has a serious look, well more than usual serious look on his face. He says that the ancient one has appeared, and he hands Saya a sword to take care of it. She heads down to a lake after walking for ten seconds (forever!) She then faces a clay statue walking in the middle of the river. She pulls out her sword and she it begins! I have to admit, that is one cool sword Knock it down and you get a teddy bear! I won't go into too much detail. It gets a bit tense at times, but it's kind of a slow action sequence. I'll pic spam to explain. Short synopsis: statue rush, Saya smacks it to ground, statue grows arms, statue knocks Saya's sword away, Saya gets knocked around a bit, Saya gets sword back, Saya mercilessily hacks and stabs, Saya gains bada@! eyes and delivers final blow, statue bleeds and dies. 100 POINTS! Statue evolves into Statuezoar Statuezoar uses Vicegrip! I don't know why, but I'm not a big fan of her hair Sharingan activate! Oh wait... Blood always makes an action anime a little bit better Don't ever eat my pudding again Sorry about the pic spam, but I felt it would be a bit more effective in telling the story. Saya walks back covered in blood. She meets her father, and she tries to hand over her cool sword with it's epic name, Goshintou, but we see she's shaking. Saya's father touches her hand as she takes away the blade. Strangely, she blushes and sees the mysterious light again. The ED comes in which of course I skipped. You can check it out, though. Opinion: So all in all, I can't say that I liked all this, but it did have it's good moments. The walking sequences took far too long, I wasn't a big fan of the art, and the fight wasn't all that epic. It did, however, have some good voice acting in my opinion, and while I didn't think it was epic, the fight sequence was good enough. I'm okay with the characters I guess, but I do not like Saya's strange attachment to her father. It's almost like a crush. The most epic thing in this episode was that sword! It looked so cool! I guess I'll give this more time to develop. I'll watch it, but I don't know if I'll do episodics. I'll still recommend this to some people, since I'm sure some people would still like this.
